How to Design a Low-Maintenance Garden

Nowadays, everybody wants to have a garden at home. It's not only trendy but also it’s one of the best ways to use that lawn or backyard space that you have. But maintaining a garden is no easy feat, as you need quite some time and dedication.

With the busy life that we live today, finding that time can be tricky. Well, you don’t need to worry. There are some tips you can explore to create a low-maintenance garden on your property, and here are the best of them!

Make Your Garden a Living Area

Gardening is not just about plants. It’s about creating a unique outdoor experience that can become an extension of your home.

As you start designing the garden, combine the green plants and the beautiful flowers with a few outdoor furniture pieces. Consider adding a fire pit in there too to create that cozy and serene outdoor area for your home.

It Doesn’t Have to Be Big

Even though a lot of people want to have a big and beautiful garden, sometimes it’s not possible to maintain that due to time constraints. But there’s nothing wrong with a small garden as long as it’s designed correctly. This is one of the best tips for a low maintenance garden out there.

Pick Low Maintenance Plants

Different garden plants require different levels of maintenance. Some may require attention on a daily basis while others will survive even with simple periodic care now and then.

If you don’t have enough time to garden, consider getting low maintenance outdoor plants that won’t need too much time or attention. You may also need to assess the climatic conditions in your area just to be sure you are picking out the right crops for your garden.

Drought resistant plants that require minimal watering tend to be perfect for various areas. But the choice is entirely dependent on the time you have at hand.

Let Some Areas Run Wild

Not every part of the garden needs to look fancy, well planned or trimmed. Leaving a little bit of wilderness around the well-trimmed area can create the perfect synergy.

This will also mean that only small chunks of the garden need to be maintained. A wild garden with small touches of maintenance is an out of the box idea and it can bring a unique level of contrast to your landscape.

Go for a Simple Water Fountain or Feature

The water feature is, of course, going to be the centerpiece of your garden. There are several different types of water features that you can use including simple fountains and more sophisticated ones.

However, if you are interested in creating a simple non-fussy garden, you may want to go for the simplest water feature that you can find.

Have an Organization System for Your Tools

You will need a wide array of tools to maintain your garden and it helps to make sure that they are stored and organized in the right way.

Gardening tools can be dangerous and you don’t want them lying around. Besides, you also want to make sure that you can find the tools whenever you need them so that you don’t end up wasting time trying to find the right tools.

Limit the Planting Space

The best way to make things easy for your garden is to reduce the planting area as much as possible.

Even though it’s always nice to have a wide variety of plants in there including easy maintenance plants, if you don’t have the time, just limit the space and plant as few plants as possible. This will save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

Having a garden can be a fulfilling idea as long as you have the time and dedication to take care of it. But even if you live a busy life, you can use the ideas above to get it done.
